Technical Coordinator - Environmental Solutions

LOCATION: Cambridge, ON or Tulsa, OK

REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager, GT Intake Systems or GT Exhaust Systems

Position Overview:

The Technical Coordinator is responsible for incorporating engineering requirements into detailed designs for complete project scope of work by coordinating project design details such as client interface points, general arrangement drawings and engineering calculations with other team members assigned to the project and overseeing the drawing production and checking by team members assigned to the project team. Technical Coordinators will interface with Project Engineers for design reviews, customer communication, responding to technical design questions, checking designs for accuracy and constructability and providing engineering support to fabricators.

Reporting Structure:

The Technical Coordinator reports to the Engineering Manager, GT Intake Systems or GT Exhaust Systems.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the preparation of models, defining and sequencing detail design tasks and checking;
  • Ensure completion of project modeling, drafting, checking on time and within quality standards;
  • Understand and follow information on all project drawings, engineering calculations and specifications, highlighting critical aspects to the team;
  • Ensure the manufacturability and constructability of fabrication drawings;
  • Coordinate technical detail design concepts and details with Project Engineers and the design drafting team;
  • Track progress on modeling, drafting and checking tasks and proactively estimate percent completion;
  • Identify, document and communicate potential improvements for implementation on current or future projects;
  • When requested, support Project Engineers by liaising directly with customers, suppliers and fabricators on technical design issues;
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to others within the design drafting team to improve quality and efficiency within;
  • Identify risks to project success in areas including, but not limited to lack of information, in-process design changes, increased duration of tasks etc.;
  • Coordinate design work with other disciplines and other project team members;
  • Conduct peer reviews of associates and sub-consultant’s work;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Design Technologist Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience;
  • Thorough understanding of 3D solid modeling and design drafting software implementation and application, preferably with Autodesk products (AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault);
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in Inventor, ideally involving industrial plate steel product designs, large ducts and exhaust stacks;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in a project team environment where team members are spread across multiple office locations;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain effective and respectful working relationships with internal and external contacts.

Quality Assurance Engineer

REPORTS TO: Director of Quality Assurance

Position Overview:

Responsible for providing support to Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, Marketing and Field Service relating to Quality Assurance/Control functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitors and assembles project records to ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements
  • Maintains and reviews quality records submitted by suppliers, fabricators and sub-fabricators including paint records, welding records, and dimensional inspection records
  • Assists with development of quality standards and procedures
  • Prepares inspection and test plans for project fabrication
  • Reviews / Audits completed and in-process projects, assists in development of Lessons Learned.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the company’s Nonconformance & Corrective Action System. Assists with root cause and corrective action activities
  • Assists with development, collection and evaluation of Performance Metrics
  • Assists with the maintenance of the company’s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System & conducts Internal Audits
  • Conducts Internal Audits, from plan development to closure of corrective actions
  • Assists with evaluations of suppliers, fabricators and sub-fabricators; responsible for Supplier ScoreCard development and maintenance
  • Assist suppliers, fabricators, sub-fabricators, local supplier quality managers, project managers, and customers with root cause corrective action and other quality related tasks
  • Collect voice of the customer data and troubleshoot quality complaints or problems and recommend and/or implement process improvements
  • Reviews customer specifications and contract documents; assists with flow down of customer requirements
  • Ability to travel internationally with less than 10% travel anticipated
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

Technical Skills (required):

  • Proficient experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) SharePoint, and data analysis
  • Prior internal auditing experience to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems
  • Steel fabrication
  • Knowledge of ASME and AWS Welding Codes
  • Knowledge of coating/painting process and controls
  • Knowledge of welding and associated processes

Technical Skills (preferred):

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Mandarin)
  • Knowledge and ability to apply Quality Engineering & Six Sigma Improvement Tools
  • AWS CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) or AWS CWS (Certified Welding Supervisor)
  • NACE Level II
  • ASTM-Material Specifications, ASQC-CMI program, NBBI boiler inspector program, ASNT-NDT Test program

Intermediate Project Controls Coordinator/Intermediate Project Scheduler

LOCATION: Calgary, AB

Position Overview:

Innova Global currently has an immediate requirement for an Intermediate Project Controls Coordinator/Intermediate Project Scheduler, based in the Calgary office. The position will be responsible to assist our team with all aspects of schedule development, maintenance and communication throughout a project’s lifecycle.

The Intermediate Project Controls Coordinator/Intermediate Project Scheduler will liaise with various stakeholders including Estimating, Project Management and Construction to ensure appropriate communication is in place to accurately establish baseline vs. actuals and forecast project schedules through to close out. A critical component of change management, the Intermediate Project Controls Coordinator/Intermediate Project Scheduler will be involved in all aspects of planning and scheduling of both internal and external requests for change.

Reporting Structure:

The Intermediate Project Controls Coordinator/Intermediate Project Scheduler will report to the Senior Manager, Projects and/or Director of Operations.

Key Responsibility:

  • Performs typical detailed Project Planning and Scheduling tasks;
  • Develops/maintains logic based Project EPC schedules, progress monitoring/ analysis and report on the portfolio of small to medium range projects;
  • Assists with the preparation of Monthly Progress Reports, progress profiles and any other schedule related status reports;
  • Gathers timely and accurate progress data from the project teams, contractors and others associated groups (consultants, etc.);
  • Maintains Change Management procedure on each project to monitor and track schedule/progress trends/changes along with the appropriate documentations and approvals;
  • Gathers and reports on schedule and progress on a timely basis;
  • Assists Project Managers with Project close-out initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control and close-out;
  • Assists the Estimating team with Proposal schedules;
  • Coordinates with Project Managers, Engineering and SCM, Construction teams, Accounting team as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Completion of Post-Secondary Engineering Degree Program or equivalent;
  • Prior experience (3-5 years) within Project Controls within the Construction Industry would be a definite asset;
  • Experience/understanding of sequencing, scope of work analysis, blueprint reading and contracts/claims management would be a definite asset;
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office & Primavera (P6);
  • Must be able to meet continuous deadlines and able to work some overtime;
  • Must be a team player: willing to continuously & proactively collaborate, share and seek information & guidance;

Structural Design Engineer – Environmental Solutions

LOCATION: Cambridge, ON or Tulsa, OK

Position Overview:

The Structural Design Engineer provides technical support and carries out the structural design and analysis of project components. The Structural Design Engineer is responsible for the estimating-proposal-design-fabrication-delivery product lifecycle, and oversees structural consultants and suppliers, as directed by the Manager. A majority of the design tasks are focused on the structural design of large ducted systems for industrial gas turbine applications (air & gas handling, steel stacks, ducts and support structure). Understanding of operating requirements for Simple/Combined Cycle/Cogen and Exhaust/Intake systems is desired.

Reporting Structure:

The Structural Design Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager, GT Exhaust Systems.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Establish product design requirements from client drawings and specifications;
  • Perform structural calculations for projects to ensure design is structurally adequate and it meets customer specifications and industry codes and standards;
  • Coordinate, perform and check calculations required to substantiate the product design;
  • Interface with Project Engineers for design reviews, customer communication, responding to technical design questions, checking designs for accuracy and constructability and providing engineering support to fabricators and constructors;
  • Evaluate and approve shop changes to ensure the changes comply with original design and customer specifications;
  • Review and investigate field issues and provide corrective action to resolve field problems;
  • Conduct on-site inspections and troubleshooting investigations as required;
  • Support the estimating, sales and proposals teams by preparing preliminary designs, technical write-ups and detailed cost estimates for bought-out components;
  • For retrofit projects: evaluate existing systems, incorporate new designs to meet requirements while minimizing additional equipment;
  • Review internal drawings that have a customer or vendor interface;
  • Review and implement all standard Engineering Specifications as applicable to the product;
  • Provide technical input into operating and maintenance manuals;
  • Lead continuous improvement projects for cost reduction and quality improvement of products;
  • Work with other Engineering team members to examine methods and strategies to improve both product and process;
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • University Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering;
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of structural design experience in large stiffened steel plate structures, including stacks and ducts, round and rectangular, and their support structures;
  • (Eligible for) Professional Engineer registration in USA or at least one province or territory of Canada, preferably Alberta and/or Ontario;
  • Proficiency in structural steel design and analysis using STAAD, Mathcad, spreadsheet-based calculations and hand calculations, including analysis of components subject to elevated temperature cyclic service and fatigue analysis;
  • Awareness of FEA and CFD analysis techniques;
  • Knowledge of ASCE, IBC, UBC and National Building Code of Canada;
  • Knowledge of AISC 360, AISC 341, CSA S16 and AISI S100;
  • Codes/standards knowledge in other jurisdictions is a highly valued asset but not essential;
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, using MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills;
  • Proven ability to mentally visualize design concepts, and sketch-out designs for other team members to follow;
  • Ability to adapt to changing customer profiles and work under pressure;
  • The ability to lead large or small projects is an asset;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in a project team environment where team members are spread across multiple office locations;

Application Engineer – Environmental Solutions

LOCATION: Cambridge, ON

REPORTS TO: Director, Business Development and Proposals

Position Overview:

Innova Global has an opening for an Application Engineer based in our Cambridge, Ontario office. The Application Engineer performs technical proposal development of assigned products and services for Innova Global environmental systems, primarily gas turbine auxiliary products. This is a position combining technical specification review, preliminary design, estimating and proposal development. For assigned bids and products, the Application Engineer will perform full client specification review, followed by conceptual acoustical/mechanical/structural design coordinating with internal and external resources. The Application Engineer also coordinates, and when Estimating resources advise, performs bill-of-material development and cost estimating, followed by preparation of the technical proposal.

The Application Engineer is responsible for identifying all technical risks and presenting to the Business Development Manager / Bid Leader, while also assisting in developing risk mitigation strategies.

Reporting Structure:

The Application Engineer will report to the Director, Business Development and Proposals based in our Cambridge, Ontario office.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Provide input to the assigned BD Manager / Bid Leader for development of specific bid and product strategies / technical risk mitigations;
  • Perform full technical specification review for assigned bid opportunities and products, and clearly identify all technical risks, exception and clarifications;
  • Review and analyze customer documents, requests for quotes, equipment, product designs to ensure concept is optimized and effective;
  • Perform and coordinate conceptual equipment acoustical/mechanical/structural design utilizing internal and external resources;
  • Coordinate preparation and/or prepare proposal drawings;
  • Coordinate and/or prepare preliminary bill-of-materials, sub-vendor RFQ’s;
  • Coordinate with estimating team and/or perform sub-vendor price reviews and/or negotiations for specific opportunities;
  • Prepare detailed/accurate costing for quotes by individually analyzing each aspect of the project (compare to previous similar projects);
  • Present quotes both internally and externally to explain concept and validate budget;
  • Prepare technical proposals, along with identifying technical risks and developing risk mitigation measures;
  • Attend project kick-offs and concept reviews to provide detailed explanation of budget/scope;
  • Keep up-to-date with Innova and industry design standards, state-of-the-art product knowledge;
  • Travel to client pre-bid meetings (as required).

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Technical degree from a University or College in related field;
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in specification review, design and cost estimating of similar products - environmental systems, primarily gas turbine auxiliary products;
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in proposal preparation;
  • A strategic thinker, self-starter, high job commitment, pays attention to details, with excellent interpersonal relationship skills;
  • Enjoys a fast-paced deadline driven environment;
  • Candidate must be proficient in reading mechanical design drawings;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills;
