PROJECT DESCRIPTION
During startup under certain partial load conditions, there were unexpected peaks in the noise radiated from the existing exhaust system. Accurate testing was needed to determine the cause of this noise and the level of silencing needed and innovative engineering required to design a system to counteract the vibration contributing to the noise problem.
SCOPE OF WORK
Design, engineer, manufacture and supply of exhaust system: complete engineering and foundation load analysis, horizontal primary and secondary transitions, horizontal silencer, elbow designed for future combined cycle conversion, vertical primary and secondary transitions, vertical silencer, 100ft exhaust stack, test ports, access doors, ladders, platforms, and personnel protection screening.
ACOUSTICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Stack Top – 126 dB @ 31.5Hz at start-up
- 103 dB @ 63Hz at start-up
- 93 dB @ 125Hz at start-up
- Casing – 136 dB @ 31.5Hz at 2.5 minutes from start-up
UNIQUE PROJECT HURDLES
Unique and critical noise specifications included individual octave band requirements as well very specific partial load acoustic limitations.
RESULTS
INNOVA met all required acoustical targets for this project.
